I don't really watch a lot of anime, and I don't know much about it, but I do know what I like. I love drama, and when I say drama I don't necessary mean crying in every episode, but I mean pretty drama, roses all over the place, long wavy hair, sparkles and romance. Most of the time I like the shounen-ai kind, because there's more of that kind of drama. And I like 70's and 80's drawing styles the most, big pointy noses. Put those together and it's absolute love. That's what happened when I saw Patalliro! for the first time a couple of years ago, after I read about it on Firipa's livejournal.
The original manga series started in 1979 and is still being released apparently. The anime is from 1982. There is a remake from 2005, Patalliro Sayuki!, but the art kind of sucks. The 1982 anime, however, has really beautiful art, which is probably why I love it so much. My eyes become sparkly too, when I watch it. It was also the first anime with shounen-ai themes being aired on japanese TV. Other than that, it's incredibly funny and silly and everyone has awesome pseudo-european names.
Patalliro is Patalliro du Malyner VIII, the King of Malynera, who is only 10 and suffers from diabetes. He is also very delluded about his appearence, and is a bit of a pervert.
Jack Barbarosa Bancoran is assigned to be Patalliro's bodyguard, and finds out it is actually a tough job. Not only Patalliro is obnoxious, everyone is out to get him, especially pretty ladyboys. Lucky for Bancoran, whose nickname is "Bishounen Killer", as he is known for seducing pretty boys with just a glance, maybe that's why he is always wearing blue eyeshadow. And all the pretty boys have frail figures, really long wavy hair, and yes, huge and long sparkly eyes with dark eyelashes, they all basically look like girls.
And then there's Maraich Juschenfe, former assassin of the Diamond Syndicate. Working for Count Larken (formerly known as Duran du Continental) he is assigned to kill Bancoran. But he is, well, a bishounen and despite being Count Larken's lover he falls into Bancoran's spell. They then become lovers. Of course Bancoran seduces a new bishounen almost every episode, which makes Maraich insanely jealous. Oh, and all the romance scenes! They are wonderful. And the soundtrack to them is especially perfect. Actually the whole soundtrack is perfect. For me, at least.
I'm always inspired when I watch it, to draw I mean. Because the art is so lovely. I've been feeling really off of it lately, no motivation, seems I can't do anything right, no ideas. Today I was in a foul mood, and then I watched Patalliro, and I am amused and inspired. It always makes me want to work.
Anyway, if you think you're going to love it check it out on youtube. If not, then well, you suck! :P
This is old news, but I just finished watching the first couple of seasons of Skins, and it was kind of awesome. I was skeptic, I mean, it was that series from MTV, but it is actually quite well written, I laughed and even cried. The characters really grow on you, and they're all great. I love Tony and Chris and of course mine and everyone else's favourite, Cassie. Cassie was, well, lovely!
Cassie is played by Hannah Murray who has a strange, sweet face, a charming overbite and a really wide, beautiful smile. She is the one of the bunch with the edgy style who is slightly nuts (and anorexic). She also says "oh wow, lovely" a lot and stares.
Her style is so cute and playful, it makes me wish I was more girly. It reminds me of japanese fashion a bit, of when Zipper magazine was still exciting, and Chara and Yuki in the 90's, who have always been fashion icons for me.

Oh yay, a new year, a new beginning! Actually I never really saw the point in celebrating the new years until a couple of new years ago. It's subjective, and it is barely anything more than an excuse to party. However, anything that remotely suggests a fresh start, is also a wonderful excuse for improvement. Or hope of improvement. I actually started this blog on the 1st of 2009. It's been a year! It doesn't feel like it has been that long, perhaps because I seldom post.
Last year, well, was an improvement I think. I think I grew up a lot. I am extremely self involved, I believe most of my achievements happened on a more emotional level. And usually on new year's eve I feel extremely sad, but this time I didn't feel horrible or anything, I'm actually okay with myself and where I'm at, this is not where I want to stay but right now it's ok! It was also great having my old friends Vanda & Cisco move back to Portugal, it is great being able to spend time with them everytime I want and be inspired by Vanda's contagious motivation!
I hope this year will be even more filled with energy and change, more organization and more goals achieved. This is what I always hope for. I am also going to try to blog more, because I really like it. I will not go into details about my resolutions for 2010 however, I like to keep those to myself.
Oh my god, has it really been 10 years since the year 2000? I am so old!
